A Cuyahoga Falls man on his way to a ride honoring fallen Vietnam War soldiers from Ohio was killed Saturday morning in a motorcycle crash.Sean Simmons, 44, of Norwood Avenue, was westbound on Truxell Road in Boston Township when the bike crashed about 10 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene, a spokesman for the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office said.Eddie Westfall, a Peninsula police officer who is investigating the crash, said speed was a factor.Simmons was rounding a curve on a 2000 Harley-Davidson Road King when the bike went left of center, Westfall said. The posted speed on that section of the road is 40 mph, but there is a yellow sign warning drivers to slow down to 30 mph around the curve. A woman traveling in the opposite direction saw Simmons lose control as he rounded the curve, Westfall said.“The speed of the bike was just too much for the curve,” he said.Simmons was not wearing a helmet, Westfall said. Alcohol and drugs aren’t suspected in the crash.Peninsula police and the medical examiner’s office are investigating. An autopsy is to be performed Monday. Simmons was en route to the Ride for the 3,095, a memorial ride from Richfield to Clinton to honor the 3,095 Ohioans killed in the Vietnam War. More than 2,800 riders participated in the event. The procession was interrupted by an unrelated accident that occurred when two motorcycles collided on Interstate 77 about a mile from the state Route 21 exit.
